About Tutuvatu
Tutuvatu is a Guadalcanal word that means to tap stones together.
In the days of long ago, whenever men and women tell stories, or philosophize about the issues of life, they would gently tap two stones together, producing a rhythm that accompanies the story telling.
But tutuvatu refers to more than just the tapping of stones. It is about the production, sharing, and transfer of knowledge.
Following that tradition of tutuvatu we have created this space where people gather, think about, discuss, share, and transfer ideas, knowledge and wisdom that could be used to create a progressive future for the people of Guadalcanal in particular, and Solomon Islands more generally.
While this is predominantly a space for talking about Guadalcanal, the people that come here and the issues discussed are by no means exclusively Guadalcanal. We recognize that Guadalcanal is part of Solomon Islands, the Pacific Islands region, and the wider global community. Consequently, discussions about other places, peoples, and issues are relevant and important.
We also recognize that knowledge is produced, not only through formal and 'serious' discourses, but also through other genres of communication: jokes, songs, dances, poetry, paintings, lele, kastom stories, etc. So, we encourage you to come here and express yourself in the way you feel most comfortable.
We insist, however, that in our expressions, we must respect others. We could disagree with ideas, but we must respect the person. This is essential in building a better future for all.
Note that this is not an official website of the Guadalcanal Province. Hence, the views expressed here do not necessarily represent the Guadalcanal Provincial Government. We hope, however, that the ideas and suggestions produced here will be used in the administration of the Province and in our efforts to improve the lives of our people.
So, come in, sit down, light the fire of wisdom, and let's begin the tutuvatu.
Doku, Talana, Meta , Siani, Dou.
